Hell’s Kitchen was a hotspot in Manhattan this past weekend as it served up open studios of 50+ artists living and working in the area. Artists, galleries, and venues participated from 34th to 60th Streets between 7th & 10th Avenue in the first annual HK: Artist…Hell’s Kitchen Artist Studio Tour 2009.

There was absolutely something for everyone, and Tangerine Living was there to savor the work of over 20 artists representing different styles of art from abstract, surreal, impressionist, graffiti, mosaic, realism, and pop art.

As I chatted with some of my now favorite artists like Celeste Duboise, Janet Restino, Philip Martogolio, Judy Negron, and Yorgo Valyrakis, it was great to see the vast range of subject matters and styles, and equally fascinating to see how they live and work in Hell’s Kitchen.

If only I had more time and another pair of feet to cover all the artist’s showing, but hopefully next time I can catch up with some artists I didn’t get to see like Margaret Zox Brown, Omar Prince, and Marcia Haufrecht, as well as, new artists who may show next year or those moving into the area…Hell’s Kitchen is still one of my favorite places to be because it is full of New York flavor and an epicenter of Manhattan.

Check out some of the artists’ work below, and to find out more info about HK: Artist Open Studio
