Mad for Missoni

Mad for Missoni

by Hadrian Miguel, Life & Style Director

You better hurry, it’s a mod, mod, mod world now with the proliferation of colorful zigzags and swirly patterns with the cheap chic collection of Missoni which launches tomorrow for a very limited run at Target.

Since 1953, Missoni has been acclaimed worldwide for its unique knitwear in eclectic mix-and-match patterns, colors and textures. Known for its fashion and luxury goods, Missoni has created many collections sold at 37 freestanding boutiques, leading department stores and retailers around the world.

Although Missoni is well known for its textiles and prints in clothing, I’m much more excited about the home furnishings collection (including bedding, dinnerware, stationery and décor) available in the same colorful patterns and at very cool, moderate prices ( $12.99 for towels, rugs and pillow $29.99, and dishes from $2.99-$19.99)!

Missoni for Target collection is at prices ranging from $2.99 to $399.99, with most items less than $40.

I’ll also probably scoop up the bedding set, the expresso/coffee mug set, and maybe a piece or two in the men’s collection (although press images from that collection were very limited at time of this publication), and the bike, which I’ll snap up and ride up in style at Burning Man next year!

Only available from Sept. 13 through Oct. 22, 2011 at all Target stores and Target.com.

Studio Mesila is a eco/sustainable design studio that has created some of the coolest green ideas.  The eco-design strategy minimizes the environmental footprint of the product by using a careful selection of the materials.

The materials range from fabric remnants, bricks, wood chips and recycled building materials from the streets of Tel Aviv.

Dyson Air Multiplier

Dyson Air Multiplier

Would you ever pay $300 for a fan?  Dyson thinks you will.  Check out the Dyson Air Multiplier with its unique no blade fan technology and minimalistic design.  It works exactly like any other fan except that the actual “fan” parts are in the base.

Easey to clean, for sure

What’s in a name? Everything.  Not a lot of people will pay $300 for a fan but an Air Multiplier, now that’s marketing genius??  But the design is pretty sweet and who wouldn’t want a fan with blades.  I doubt I’d ever spend so much for a fan but it’s nice to gawk.

We Love Muji

We Love Muji

Muji Home

We at Tangerine Living are having a lovefest with the store Muji in New York. Everything about the brand excites us.  All their designs emphasize on minimalism, no branding and streamline packaging.  Muji is a Japanese retail company that makes everything from stationary to furniture using recycled and natural materials for all their products and have been involved in designing fuel efficiency cars and minimalistic green homes.

The product design is very minimalistic and some may even say it’s boring, but there are devotees who are dubbed the “Mujirers” and are fanatics of the brand, actually some call it the Muji lifestyle.  But some thinks all this bland minimalistic furnishing makes us boring and the space we inhibit uninteresting. It seems you either love them or hate them.  They have a huge following in the design world and have a yearly Muji Design Award.  But whatever your take on minimalism is, we just love the stuff in their store.  Simple, space-saving and
