On THE OUT…(only in) NYC

by Hadrian, Life & Style Director

STAY. PLAY. EAT. CHILL.

THE OUT NYC in Manhattan will be New York’s first gay, straight-friendly urban resort located in Hell’s Kitchen steps away from Chelsea and Time Square.

It’s touted as a destination for gay travelers and a social epicenter for the local gay community — a place where gay people, their family and friends can experience the best of lodging, nightlife, food, drink and design.

It’s set to open its doors in March, THE OUT NYC will be moderately priced (starting at $250 a night) and include 105 rooms and three courtyards.

The $30 million project is located at the 512 W. 42nd Street. With lots of open space and glass planned, the views are sure to be ahh-mazing. THE OUT NYC will also house a 5,000 square-foot wellness center/ gym, a spa, and a 24 hour restaurant.

Brought to you by the founders of the famed eatery nyc, get social with large communal tables. When it’s warm, let us pack you a picnic to eat in the hotel courtyard, or get cozy anytime and we’ll deliver to you in your room.

CHILL.

Whatever your mood, they’ve got an outdoor space for you. It’s what makes this destination, a true urban resort.

The Sun Deck: If you want the perfect place to get your tan on or watch an amazing sunset, there’s no need to go outside the city. At The Sun Deck, they say it’s Fire Island meets Manhattan, where boxwood and stucco surround an sunbathing deck. Along one side is a glass reflecting pool with a water room enclosed by cascading curtains of rain.

The Secret Garden: The Secret Garden is tucked inside serene plantings of black bamboo. It’s a quiet place to bring your laptop and a snack. Work or read at our long sturdy tables. It’s also the right place to bring your yoga mat for quiet meditation.

The Great Lawn They say Who needs Central Park? When their Great Lawn offers everything you need to enjoy the great outdoors. The grass is green. The beanbag chairs are soft. There’s enough green space on the Great Lawn for outdoor games or events. With a hilled stage at the north end, it’s the perfect place for a wedding ceremony, cocktail party or press junket. And whatever the occasion, Kitchen 510 can be there to cater your every culinary need.

While other sites may have mocked or criticized the hotel before it’s even become a full reality, we here support any idea for cool design and an awesome life in our community. It’s never been so good as it is now to be out and open, and this compound is all that, replete with decadence, voyeurism, and cruising to boot.

The Future of Love + Rock Music = the Gossip

The Future of Love + Rock Music = the Gossip

Hadrian Miguel, Lifestyle & Skincare Director

The Gossip kicked off their 2009 U.S. tour this October in support of their recent album Music for Men. We got a chance to see them in San Francisco at the Regency Ballroom on October 25, 2009.

Armed with messages of love, gay rights and marriage, celebrity, confidence, and hope, the Gossip rocked the house. Beth Ditto and band are the future of rock music with a punk and pop mix, a powerful voice, big guitars, snappy beats, explosive choruses and an enigmatic and proud lead singer.

After performing various hits and new music like the opener Dime Store Diamond, Pop Goes the World, Yr Mangled Heart (my personal favorite),  Men in Love, Love Long Distance, Listen Up!, and Heavy Cross, the Gossip returned for their encore with a special rendition of Tina Turner’s What’s Love (Got To Do With It?) with JD Samson from M.E.N. (an opening act for them) and then they closed their set with their breakthrough rock-pop anthem Standing In The Way of Control. Take a look at our video of their performance right here…

The Gossip are on tour here in the U.S. through this month and ending in their former home state of Arkansas on 10/30. They resume their European leg of the tour  starting in Paris beginning on November 15th and ending in London and Manchester on 11/30/2009. While their new album is more polished and slick, their punk and rock grittiness is so apparent in their live show, so go check them out if you can…you’ll be glad you did because the Gossip can rock it out!!
