First, I want to seriously say Poo to Robert & Brenda Vale. They wrote a book that basically says having a dog is like having a SUV in terms of carbon footprint. Name of the book: Time to Eat the Dog! They are obviously trying to get some kind of rise out of pet owners but think about the message it sends to people who does not look beyond the headlines. Adoption would go way down and nobody does anything about spay and neutering animals. Don’t blame us for your irresponsibility.
But these headlines!
Eat my dog and save the planet?
Where do I start? Why don’t humans stop having babies? The diaper problem is astronomical in landfills. Why don’t you guys drink water like us? No plastic bottles. We as living beings have more rights to be here than an SUV.
Not to go on a rage, but it’s really the headlines that I can’t deal with.
Is my friend here green enough for ya?

How Green Should I Be?
I understand that the book is trying to get us to change our diets, less meat, but baby it’s mother nature. We are meat eaters. Instead of trying to change us, why don’t you stop all your own pollution.

I have to admit it I have a problem with big dogs especially big dogs. Can’t explain it but I just can’t deal with it. I just go bonkers. Who do they think they are being all big? My owner doesn’t make better at this point. He anticipates me being aggressive and somehow it just manifest itself and there I am showing all my teeth in full glory.
Maybe someday I will learn or maybe not. My owner ALWAYS tells me, “One of these days, Ziggy. One of these days.” Can I make a positive change in my life? Now that Michael Jackson has passed away I must listen to those immortal words “I’m starting with the man in the mirror.” Yes I am going to make that change, yeah…as soon as I get that German Shepard across that street that’s been giving me the evil eye. Let me at him! WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING AT?
Is your Cat a Mod Cat? Here’s a litter box you can proudly display: the ModKat Litter Box.

OMG, today my master got a delivery from the UPS guy. I was so excited I couldn’t stop jumping up and down cause I knew from the smell exactly what it was. It was was a bunch of Virbac CET dental chews that my master got for me. I was told that it much cheaper online than from the Vet. Even though I’ve got a great Vet, most of the over counter products he sells are just way overpriced. I have bad teeth (I don’t floss, I know it’s bad) so my vet recommended a few products that will help. Or else I would need a teeth cleaning very soon. This stuff is not only good for you but I am pretty much addicted to it. My master was shocked when he found out it was $27.00 a bag was at the Vet. So of course my master went online and found it cheaper at Lambert Vet Supply.
My favorite is Virbac CET Hextra Chews which is rawhide soaked with enzymes to help with my plaque. There are two different kinds, one with regular enzymes and one with extra enzymes but I like it all the same because to me it’s just rawhide. the online price is about $7.00 a bag. There are also these new VeggieDent Chews by the same maker if you are a veggie doggie.
I do have to say that after chewing these everyday for the last 8 months, it has really helped my plague problem and my master has seen some go away.
Lambert Vet Supply is a great online store for pets that all sells Virbac Chews and more. They have pretty good service but website is a bit antiquated but don’t let that fool you, they have great prices and you can get them on the phone. Greenies are pretty cheap on the site and so are Bully sticks.
Until next time, good chewing! Zigs

Meet Ziggy! Ziggy is a 3 year old Chihuahua mix and he is the friendliest little dog in the world. I adoped him about a year and a half ago and he is the constant joy in my life. It would be unbearable for me to be without him at this point. We found each other on PetFinder.com during the winter months and I cannot imagine what a 12 pound dog was doing outside in New York City in the middle of winter. There was no chip or collar on him when he was found wondering through Washington Heights near W. 176th St. in Manhattan. His history is unclear to me but what I do know is that he has been around people and pretty well socialized with other dogs. Ziggy has moved on since he started his new life with me which is an incredible lesson we can learn from dogs that they move on and concentrate on the present, not the past, not the future.
What is important to me is that adoption should be the first option when considering owning a pet whether it’s a dog, a cat or an exotic animal your local animal shelter or PetFinder.com have just about every type of breed that you are looking for. There are also breed-specific rescue groups that have pure breed dogs and cats for adoption. Most of these groups are run by people who are passionate about saving animals such as Sugar Mutts who I adopted Ziggy from through PetFinders.com. Your local shelter is a great option as well because most of the poor dogs will be euthanize within 2 weeks, sometimes less if it’s crowded, so you will be literally saving a life right then and there.

Let's Be Friends
There are some great senior pets that are fantastic companions and much calmer than younger dogs. A lot of older dogs and cats are very people friendly and just looking for a forever home. The cat will already be trained to use a litter box, the dog already house broken and very well behaved so there are plenty of pluses to adopting a senior animal. More and more animals are dropped off at local animal shelters when people cannot financially take care of their animals and for those who wants to get a cat or a dog, it is such a perfect match so please think twice, thrice or more before you buy a dog. Most dogs from pet stores are all dogs from puppy mills which is a horrible process of breeding dogs with no conscious whatsoever, the dogs are kept in cages for the duration of their life and never gets to live a normal life. Oprah did a show on that a few years ago and hopefully some of the people changed their mind about buying a dog from a pet store. The pet stored purchased dog usually have plenty of medical problem stemming from their mom’s poor health and living environment.
So please consider adopting before buying. The process of adoption is not very complicated. If you plan on adopting from a shelter you should bring the entire family to meet the dog and I guarantee you that the dog will find you. So save a life, you will have a best friend in return.

Well I said I’d do it and now I’m doing it. My very first blog, yeah I was on Dogster but nobody goes there anymore, you know how the internet is. It was only a matter of time before I started branchiing out into bigger and bigger digs. As I started writing, didn’t you know it, I had writer’s block. Blog blocked. It seems that the idea of having a blog is better than actually writing a blog but I promised. To get unblocked I had to go to my sanctuary to get centered so I went straight into the kitchen, smelt the garbage, licked the floor and licked on my empty bowl one last time and an idea came to me. Let’s talk about food. My favorite subject of all time. Write about what you know! Well I know food.
Not one to be picky, I love all food but some food comes out better than others. Once when I was on vacation in California and we ran out of my usual food so we went out and got some food from the grocery store. What was it called? Oh yes, Beneful – I was trying to forget the name and the whole incident all the same. At the time I was eating Avodern which gave my coat an amazing feel and the other chihuahua girls really love it (and you have no idea what a confidence booster that is). But the Beneful I had for about a week and my master threw that away. It was okay and I eat it but by reading the ingredient it seems that very little natural ingredients in it. After my master did some research on the internet, he found out that most of the dog food are made with byproducts, flavoring and all the stuff that dropped on the floor in the parent company’s human food division. That’s not it. The main ingredient in these food are grains which doggies really can’t digest that well. The nutritional value is very low so they recommend eating more to just to meet the standards of USDA pet food standards.
After coming back to New York we went to the local health food pet store and found a smorgasbord of great tasting natural, holistic and organic food. There are different grades of organic pet food.
Stella and Chewy’s make some fantastic tasting food from free range animals inspected by USDA. I honestly don’t know what that means but it’s better than that Beneful stuff. This is what I get regularly as a treat. They have the best duck gooze treats. The chicken is actually freeze dried from real chicken. Grandma Lucy’s is another great brand, I love their liver and chicken treats. The only ingredient in the list is: liver or chicken. Nothing else.
Those two brands come at a premium price, it’s rather pricey but if you can afford, it is just the best food you can get for your pets. Both of those brands make food for dog and cats. There are two great everyday food that are just as good. Evo By Natura and Canidae.
Evo is made by a company called By Natura which makes a whole family of organic pet foods and I can guarantee you
that I love it all. Evo has more meaty ingredients than any other ingredients which replicate the actual diets of our ancestor dogs. Yeah yeah, whatever. But it’s good food. Canidae is also a great choice as well but I have made Evo my main choice of food. Both Canidae and Evo comes in different flavors and also in wet food form and it’s okay to alternate because they are basically made out of the same ingredients.
Okay, all this talk is making me so hungry. Now where in the world did he keep that Grandma Lucy’s liver treats. Until next time, bye to all my chi bitches!
Love and Good Eatin’
Ziggy
