Tangerine Living Fall 2011 Beauty Report

Tangerine Living Fall 2011 Beauty Report

Fall is always an exciting time in fashion and beauty. You get to switch it up in the transition between seasons and try new colors which is an easy way to implement some change into your look. Fall fashion leads the way and beauty follows so here are some easy ways to integrate the trends to pay attention to for Fall- with a few product recommendations to help you get the looks.

NATURAL FACE

The neutral, warm, nude face. With a focus on flawless skin, caramel, sienna, taupe, nude, beige and brown are the basis for the color palette on eyes, cheeks and lips. The overall look is muted and mostly bare.

Dick Page chose this look for Michael Kors…..

Charlotte Tilbury designed this look for Chloe….

CHEEK FLUSH

Francoise Nars designed a unique flushed cheek for Marc Jacobs. Whether you rock the low blended look that he created or the always classic “doll cheek” flush focused on the center of the apples of the cheek- it’s a great way to showcase a fresh, youthful, pop of color.  I love a bright pink cheek. I always turn to Nars Desire for powder blush and for creme I really love Laura Mercier Creme Cheek Colour in Oleander. Layer the powder over creme and you’ll have a bright flush that lasts.

BOLD LIP

There was a bevy of reds and wines on the runway for Fall 2011.  Pat McGrath custom blended a blackened burgundy for Gucci. I always love a classic bright red like Mac’s Ruby Woo which was Lucia Pieroni’s choice for Giles, or Chanel’s Rouge Allure lipstick in Entertainment- which Peter Philips used on his models for Jil Sander….

Gucci….

Giles….

Ruby Woo by Mac….

Jil Sander….

I am also loving the deep jewel tone aubergines like Nars Train Bleu….

METALLIC EYES

I love Laura Mercier Sequin Eye Colour in Sterling and Chanel Illusoire. You’ll see a lot of graphic lines with a shimmery silver gray wash blended through it. Chanel showed a beautiful metallic eye for Fall 2011….

BOLD BROWS

Alexander Wang chose a bold brow statement for his Fall 2011 collection. So did Stephane Marais when he designed the look for Jean Paul Gaultier. You’ll want to fill yours in if they are sparse and Brow Control by Brow Diva can help keep them perfectly groomed.

Alexander Wang…..

Jean Paul Gaultier……..

Brow Diva Brow Control……..

NEUTRAL NAILS

Fall 2011 nail trends lean towards neutrals…my personal favorites are Glamour Purse and Case Study both from Essie’s Carry On Fall 2011 Collection.

Glamour Purse….

Case Study….

UNDONE HAIR

Fall 2011 hair trends are all about natural, loose, romantic hair. Whether it’s worn up or down-the look is undone, deconstructed, casual, incidental. Even if it is retro inspired- it is not refined. If it’s a ponytail- it’s looser and more casual…. not perfect. I particularly loved the hair at Rodarte which I felt beautifully encompassed this whole mood…..

5 New Year Beauty Must Tries

5 New Year Beauty Must Tries

For most, the start of a New Year marks a time for new beginnings- new starts. Where beauty is concerned, there might be products you have heard of before but wanted to learn more about before committing to….or were afraid to spend the money on. You might be in a place with the new year approaching where you are looking to invest in a new product to incorporate into your established routine. Let this list serve as another research resource for your decision making. These 5 list makers are tried and tested products that you will find on almost any Beauty Insider’s “Best of” list. If you have not yet heard of some of these or have heard of them but not yet tried them- they are all worth a look. In queries posed to top Beauty Industry Insiders these are performance All Stars. Year round. Some of these- year after year. Others are newer to the list. Consider these inside information. What better time to try something new than the new year…..

1) Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation- It’s pretty safe to say that this is the go-to foundation found in the kits of many (if not most) Professional Makeup Artists I meet. I’ve never seen anything dominate a category for makeup the way this foundation has.

2) Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage- The perfect texture for staying power. The dual tone is essential for blending perfectly into the skin. The matte finish seals over imperfections like nothing I’ve tried. I keep coming back to it after experimenting with other brands.

3) Lavanilla Deodorant- The search for an aluminum free, all natural deodorant that works is over, kids. I am so grateful that I read a review of this a while back which set me on my researching frenzy to read review after review. Consumers were saying that it worked. I bought the Vanilla Lavender at Sephora and I can tell you first hand- this is my dream deodorant. The good news- it works. I personally found that less is more which makes it a money saver. For $18 you might be comforted to hear that. It comes in other fragrances such as Pure Vanilla, Vanilla Coconut, and Vanilla Grapefruit. I am obsessed. I will eventually try all of these scents.

4) Nars Blush- Nothing sweeps onto the cheek like it. The velvet texture is almost creamy and the available color range is unmatched. Unanimously respected and recognized as the go to blush in a lot of Makeup Artist’s kits.

5) Clarisonic Mia- I didn’t want to believe this pricey exfoliation device was worth the $149 price tag. I was convinced it had to be hype. I started asking around. Try this yourself. Ask someone who is using the Clarisonic Mia to tell you what they think about it. In the people I talked to- two comments came up everytime- “ I can’t imagine my life without it now.” and “It is worth every penny.” Talk of disappearing pores and clarity as immediate results has developed the Clarisonic Mia a cult following.

Destino Spa – a spa review

Destino Spa – a spa review

I recently took a road trip. I found myself needing to be in San Francisco for work recently and so I took a detour to Palo Alto to get some fresh off the freeway spa love at the award winning Destino Spa- http://www.destinospa.net/ on El Camino Real. I’d been hearing about it for a while. Needless to say, I was really excited to get to Destino as I drove down the 5 from LA. I was imagining the massage, the facial…all after a long drive from Hollywood.

Upon my arrival at Destino- it became evident that the reality of what was in store for me was about to far surpass the fantasy on the drive. I almost couldn’t believe what I was about to experience when it was described to me in full detail by the spa staff during my welcome orientation. Destino Spa owner Christine Rivera designed my Eastern inspired “spa ritual experience” and truly brought my ultimate spa fantasy to life. Destino Spa is the hidden jewel of the South Bay. It is simply beautiful inside- such care was put into the design of Destino- from the Eastern inspired interior, the Feng Shui of the layout, the statues that oversee the peaceful interior decor and the art that adorns Destino’s walls-it is an homage to tranquility.

A soaking tub at Destino Spa.

I was lead into my private soaking room to begin my Destino experience- a 30 minute eucalyptus oil infused Botanical Soak. Candles illuminated the room, soothing music softly played….. the buzz of the freeway seemed to fall away from me to be instantly forgotten as relaxation took it’s hold. My soak was immediately followed by an 80 minute ( you heard me) Destino Journey Massage ( the best massage of my life- with Nikki- I fell asleep on my back while she was working on me…that’s true relaxation in my book.) After that- I was lead to another room to have Destino’s Organic Custom Facial with Karen. Again, the best facial I’ve ever had- she was truly amazing. Karen also gives a neck and cranial massage with her facials…..I left her care mega relaxed- fresh faced and glowing.

When my Destino Spa experience was finally complete, and I was back in my car to continue

the journey north….I realized that I have not felt that level of relaxation for a ridiculously long time. This bliss immediately following a 5 hour drive from Hollywood, mind you. What a treat. Unprecedented. I hope to make it back to Destino soon! Next time I’ll bring some friends to experience it for themselves. To anyone living in the Bay Area or planning a visit to the Bay Area- make your way to Destino Spa for a spa day.

The decor at Destino was designed with peace in mind.

Falling for Autumn

Falling for Autumn

Chantal Moore

The Autumn season is here. I’ve fallen for Fall. I used to be a Summer girl, but I am now in love with Fall. Fall has become my favorite season. The relief from high Summer temperatures. I have always loved Fall fashion. Tights & leggings. Boots. Coats. The transitions. I love the change in light, the colors in the trees, the coolness in the air. New energy is abundant. In my own personal celebration of this time- taking into consideration this new energy- I decided to cut 4 inches of my hair off! My hair guru,Cori Bardo, confirms that is how much she in fact cut but I feel liberated of so much more….I have nice clean blunt ends for the first time in a long time- just in time for the change of the seasons. I also made the decision to go more golden throughout instead of the usual drive towards toning down the Summer seasons natural highlights. This Fall I’m going with it……going with the flow of Fall…..Several of my friends are following suit and getting their hair cut into whole new styles. Even though my change was mild in comparison to the new dos some of my friends are wearing….we still all say pretty much the same thing- we wanted to feel fresh and clean for a new start for Fall…..What are ways you have wanted to make marked changes in your life?  It can be anything that is a symbolic personal statement that is meant to say “I’m moving on and starting fresh…..”

Fall is also bringing some amazing beauty goodies. Here are a few I am loving- the Chanel Les Khakis de Chanel Nail Collection. Chanel has had a really successful run with their nail color collections lately.  Some of the best colored nails I see are dressed by Chanel nail colors.  There is a palpable buzz around the internet that Chanel is about to be releasing a new collection- Chanel Les Khakis de Chanel Nail Collection.  Comprised of Khaki Brun, Khaki Rose and Khaki Vert. I really love these shades. Some of my personal favorite colors.  Each color will be priced at $25 per a bottle and will be available at Chanel boutiques, Chanel counters, and online chanel.com starting September 10th.

Fall= red lipstick. In my world, red is pretty much a constant but my new favorite red lipstick just in time for Fall is Nars Pure Matte Lipstick in Vesuvio. I dab this on and combat any dryness by dabbing red gloss into the center of the lip, or by layering lip balm over it. It brightens up any skin tone and can be built up or washed sheer for depth and dimension. I like to use it for a sheer wash of cherrypopsicle stain on myself.. .

Favorite new blush. I swear by Nars blushes and have for years. Both in my kit and in my personal use. This new color I am obsessed with right now is called Douceur-a soft pink honeyed brown. A Fall exclusive for Nars. You can use it not only as a blush, but as a contour, applying it anywhere you want to carve out dimension on the face. I like the effect so much on set that I decided to give it a go myself ( my perennial favorite for years has always been a bright pink flush, in particular the one imparted by Nars Desire) with my change in coloring thanks to my new golden hair, a soft hued blush proves to be the perfect toned down canvas for a matte red lip.

I hope you are as excited about the change in season as I am. See what new changes you can implement in your world. I’ll be back again soon with news about the latest episode of The Victory Project (in Chicago!) and more beauty debuts and personal favorites. Fashion Week NYC is about to erupt, too…… so I’ll be back with more very soon.

Estee Lauder Welcomes Tom Pecheux

Estee Lauder Welcomes Tom Pecheux

Pure Night by Tom Pecheux

Estee Lauder the uber-iconic beauty brand has for the first time taken on a Creative Director from the outside. French artist Tom Pecheux is recognized as one of the most successful Makeup Artists working today. In his new role as Estee Lauder’s Creative Makeup Director he is already breathing new life and energy into the brand. Everyone got a sneak peak at the collection when Tom took the healm at Derek Lam’s Fall 2010 fashion show. The Tom Pecheux designed Blue Dahlia collection will launch world wide in July. The Pure Color Night collection is already making it’s way to counters in Paris. Harrods and Bergdorf Goodman will get a limited quantity of the collection designed by Tom beginning in June.

Tom Pecheux, Estee Lauder Creative Director

The collection showcases rich, edgy violets, bronzes, dramatic black and navy blue shadows….and even nail color. Tom’s inspiration was, of course, French women: Cool, effortless style, sultry, organic sensuality….think illuminated bare skin, bronzed, smokey eyes…..Lauder also has 2 new spokesmodels, Constance Jablonski and Liu Wen.

I used to assist Tom when he would come into town to shoot with Mario Testino in Los Angeles and I can say that Tom is not only an incredibly talented artist, Tom is absolutely one of the sweetest men you will ever meet.  Especially in the world of fashion and beauty where you can encounter some tremendous egos at every level. Tom is a worthy inspiration and well deserving of all the accolades. I couldn’t be more excited for Estee Lauder and thrilled for Tom.

Summer Style Simplified

Summer Style Simplified

Summer is almost here! Time to lighten up & brighten up. Summer is a great time to celebrate color and embrace change. I have recently found some Summer inspired makeup products to kick start everyone’s favorite mood lifting season….

Cargo has a new limited edition eyeliner collection-“Swimmables”. These waterproof pencils will stay in place through swimming and sweating. The cream to powder formula has a silky feel and glides on nicely. Super blendable for a softer day time beach look, that can also layer nicely for a richer wash when you go out that night.

Essie- The Resort Collection

After seasons of the same black nails over and over…..it’s really great to see everyone embracing “pretty” nail color in recent months. Two of the most eye catching colors I’ve seen in a while are pastels- “Lapis of Luxury” which is a periwinkle blue and Turquoise & Caicos” which is a light jade green.

Nars Love Devotion Lipstick. The ultimate Summer lipstick shade. I fell in love with this the instant I saw it. It’s a gorgeous guava shade that instantly brightens any complexion it comes in contact with. I find myself wanting to put this on everyone. It’s a sheer formula that is long wear- so it will stay in place. Perfect for Summer.

Also by Nars…….

NARS Orgasm Illuminator

This is a “secret weapon” favorite product of mine. It’s versatility makes it a favorite with pro Makeup Artists. You can use this sheer gold peachy pink illuminator all over the body for a gorgeous all over shimmer. For the face- you can wear it as a sheer wash alone without foundation or you can blend it into your foundation and apply it all over the face to add glow, or just use as a spot highlighter. Even just as a light eyeshadow wash. Many uses- one product. We like that a lot.

Smooth operator tinted moisturizer – oil-free tinted moisturizer with SPF 20

This tinted moisturizer with SPF 20 is oil free and has micro diffusing properties that smooth the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. You want your coverage to be as light as possible during Summer months and this provides exactly what you need- weightless, light coverage with good SPF protection. The ingredient list reads like a vitamin supplement-extracts like Ginkgo Biloba root, Ginseng root, vitamins A, C and E, lemon, apple and orange extract. The list of what it doesn’t include is equally impressive- no mineral oil or petroleum, no parabens, no phthalates, no sodium lauryl sulfate, no dyes, perfumes, is cruelty free and comes to you in green packaging.

Excerpt from interview:

Marta Walsh: Where do you call home?
Chantal Moore: Right now, I call Hollywood home.

MW: When did you first become interested in makeup and beauty?
CM: I was drawn to makeup and beauty at an early age. I have odd initial beauty references! I was drawn towards ancient art as a young child- Egyptian art in particular and remember that I was simply awestruck by the imagery of Cleopatra. That eyeliner! I’m sure that’s where it started for me. I also watched a lot of old films growing up and I studied faces. I was enchanted by the faces of Marlena Dietrich, Greta Garbo, Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, Brigitte Bardot, Elizabeth Taylor. All incredibly beautiful women on whom makeup had such a huge transformative impact.

MW: What were some of your big breaks as s top makeup and beauty expert?
CM: When I first started doing makeup in Hollywood and was really new in town, building my portfolio, I got a call to do makeup on Dany Levy- the founder of Daily Candy for a television appearance. She loved her makeup so much that she called me the next day and said “You’re fabulous. I’ve never felt better about my makeup. I’m making you a Daily Candy.” I didn’t even know what that meant at the time. I had no idea the influence Daily Candy had then. It was major. The day it came out- I got hundreds of calls and emails. To this day I am infinitely grateful to Daily Candy for that. It really helped jump start my career. I also went on the road and toured with Faith Hill as her Makeup Artist and that was an incredible learning experience for me at the time.

Beauty Catch Up! March 2010

Beauty Catch Up! March 2010

by Chantal Moore, Beauty Editor

Where does the time go?  I have some Beauty Catching up to do- so let’s get right to it!

victoryprojectIf you have not already seen it- the full episode of The Victory Project Seattle- is up on the MSN website. Be sure to check out Nick Verreos and I complete the Fashion & Beauty makeovers on our amazing Ladies of Seattle!

http://thevictoryproject.msn.com/ We are now gearing up to go to our NEXT CITY for our latest group of Kelloggs Special K Challenge makeovers…..so stay tuned as more details about where and when emerge…….

Behind the scenes Reelz Channel

Reelz Channel "Behind the Scene"

Nick and I also got a chance to work together outside of The Victory Project when we were asked to appear on the Reelz Channel show Hollywood Dailies to give the lovely host of the show, Naibe Reynoso, the Oscar treatment and to contribute our Oscar Fashion & Beauty red carpet forecasts. Click on the link to watch the episode-http://www.reelzchannel.com/trailer-clips/46093/hollywood-dailies-oscar-

I watched the Oscars and wanted to see if my Beauty predictions would come true and I was surprised……most of the actresses played it really safe. I wanted to see more Neo-Retro, Mad Men inspired “classic Hollywood” looks on the red carpet but a few actresses stood out to me.

Sleek, sophisticated hair, flawless skin and bright pink lips on Sandra Bullock. I loved everything about how she looked.

Cameron Diaz played with a Neo Retro look….Rita Hayworth side-part classic Hollywood waves, gorgeous skin, pink cheek and coral-orange lipstick. Gorgeous.

And Charlize Theron looked amazing- sleek updo, flawless matte skin, fresh coral pink cheek with an orange red satin creamy lip.

Clean, classic beauty played up with a pop of color on the lips will never go out of style.

For the most part, a lot of actresses played it safe with beiges, golds and bronze-neutral makeup looks. Noticably and thankfully absent from the Oscar red carpet were the overdone, orange spray tans we have seen for so many years in a row. The result: a lot of actresses looked fresher, younger and more sophisticated than we’ve seen in years…….

Beauty Trends from the Fall/Winter 2010 runway…..

Perhaps most of the actresses were looking ahead to the Fall/Winter 2010 fashion shows which showcased a lot of nude, neutral makeup looks. It’s all about beautiful, satiny and light matte skin on the runways….the nude look…with it’s monochrome simplicity and minimalism…were accented by a light coral-pink lip at Marc Jacobs. Neutral, sheer nude lips finished a palette of caramels, and toffees with a light gray smokey eye at Chloe. One thing is for sure- get that skin in top shape. It’s about seeing clean, natural untanned skin.

The Victory Project – Seattle

The Victory Project – Seattle

I recently returned from one of my favorite places on the planet-Seattle-where we shot the Beauty segment for The Victory Project Seattle. By this time, the amazing Ladies of Seattle had already met with my esteemed colleagues-Katherine Brooking for Nutrition, Kacy Duke for Fitness and Nick Verreos for Fashion- and now it was my turn to do my part and bring the Beauty concepts to life. The Beauty of Moroccan Argan Oil – Sebbag Essentials

The Beauty of Moroccan Argan Oil – Sebbag Essentials

By Chantal Moore, Beauty Editor

bottle

Sebbag Essentials Hair and Body Serum

I have a secret weapon that performs double, sometimes triple duty on photo shoots. Argan oil. The Argan tree only grows within a very specific region of southwestern Morocco and this is why Argan oil is one of the rarest oils in the world. Argan oil is coveted in the beauty realm for it’s many purposes. I use Argan oil to get that “dewy shiny skin” look on the body, I also use it strategically to add sheen to the face, as an aromatherapy facial massage oil, and I personally use Argan oil on my hair. I use it as a hot oil treatment, and as a leave in conditioner to add shine and luster.

I recently was introduced to Sebbag Essentials. Sebbag Essentials oil comes from the Atlas Mountains of Morocco. It’s organic, it’s vegan, and also includes some other amazing oils in the blend: Extra Virgin Olive oil, Avocado oil and aromatic Neroli (Orange Blossom) which brings to Sebbag Essentials mdLOGOit’s truly unique scent.

Sebbag Essentials is the creation of Eric Sebbag, a Hollywood Hairstylist that has been in the beauty industry for over 20 years, and who also happens to be third generation Moroccan. He had been mixing oils in his kitchen for friends and clients for a while when it was clear he was onto something. After using it on photo shoots with his celebrity clients and getting majorly positive feedback, Sebbag Essentials became official a year ago. With gorgeous packaging in amber glass to protect it’s essence, Sebbag Essentials can be found online at www.sebbagessentials.com.

Fall Beauty Report: Change of The Season

Fall Beauty Report: Change of The Season

by Chantal Moore, Beauty Editor

It’s Fall.  Change of the season and time for a new approach in your beauty routine. It’s a great time to clean out your makeup bag and embrace a new start in your life…..so let’s start with the skin.

chantalchangeofseasonTime to let go of the spray tan. In realtime it’s Fall but a glimpse ahead to the Spring 2010 runways are already showing a backlash against the over tanned skin we have seen for several seasons now. Get ahead of the fashion game and focus right now on full face and body skin care. Exfoliation is key. Now is the time to find a facial exfoliation routine that suits you and also find your dream body scrub- be it dry brush or sugar/salts.

It’s also time to find your Fall/Winter foundation color. When new, post- Summer skin is revealed you will be inspired to nurture it and care for it during these next months when the change in the weather could trigger skin sensitivities. If you have an effective skin care routine- you will have less areas of redness or blemishes to cover. If dark under eye circles are a problem for you- first look at your diet and stress. Then go and find a peach toned or honey toned concealer to lightly blend into that area.

Makeup trends are showing a lot of darker lips- red, chocolate, berry and dark mulberry, even black. For Winter 2009 Chanel has the new Noir Obscure line which features several dark lipstick shades in dark colors closest to black like dark chocolate wine, and a violet black.

malbeauty3 malbeauty2 malbeauty1

(photos by Chanel)

Chanel Noir Obscure Fall 2009 with Malgosia Bela

With a darker lip- we are seeing a trend toward a lighter eye makeup look. Focus on the lashes. If you main_eyelinerstylocan’t do without liner- a classic black line, close to the lash line to fill in any sparseness at the root will help the mascara give your eyes extra punch. A new liner to try is Nars Stylo- a liner that has a super fine precision tip making it easier to control the line you create. This is my new favorite liquid liner. Thick black lashes will pop the eye, but still give the appearance of a more natural makeup look when you forego shadow for lashes alone. You want thickness and volume in your mascara. Look for a thicker wand to do the trick. To also help naturally pop the eye and provide a frame for your face- groom your brows into a natural, thicker shape.

The cheek trend is a classic doll baby pink- applied to the center and blended out to create a youthful flush. My perennial favorite is Nars “Desire”.  It’s a more sophisticated, clean, polished makeup look: classic and modern at the same time. A fresh faced makeup approach for Fall, Winter and beyond.

The Cleanser Chronicles

The Cleanser Chronicles

by Chantal Moore, Beauty Editor
I am a believer that skin care is the very first step in the Makeup application and so I always talk to my client’s about what they are using to keep their skin in balance. Likewise, if they aren’t using a product they believe in, I can make some suggestions. I have my own personal “tried and true” cleansers on rotation. I switch it up sometimes based on the condition of my skin. I also like to have more than one to refer to clients and if you are getting to know me, you’ll begin to notice it’s about price point too.  I know too much to falsely believe you have to pay a lot for quality and you shouldn’t have to. It’s about what works- for you. Easy accessability at the local health food store or drugstore is a plus, too. Here are a few of my personal cleansing favorites, as well as ones most often referred to by my clients:
Exfoliation is the key to clear, smooth skin and this creamy, concentrated cleanser with  cotton muslin cloth makes cleansing and clarifying easy. The Eucalyptus smell makes you feel like you’re at a spa.
Jurlique has a variety of cleansers for virtually every skin type with wholesome ingredients that come right from their own farm.
With an impressive ingredient list and a solid, trusted reputation for quality, I find Dr. Hauschka’s cleansers are great for dry and sensitive skin types.
I recently discovered Nelson’s and I am so grateful that I did. This cleanser leaves my skin feeling clean, balanced and refreshed.
Alba’ has a cleanser for every skin type and is a tremendous value for the quality.
So, now you have a few natural, cruelty free cleansing options for virtually every skin type and every price point to explore and try for yourself. Explore and find one that suits your skin type and personal needs.

The Evolution of Mascara

The Evolution of Mascara

by Chantal Moore, Beauty Editor

masc_12One of the questions I am asked most is “ what is your favorite mascara?” For me, not only does mascara have to perform, but it also needs to be cruelty free and I’d like it to be non toxic, too. Sadly, a lot of the best loved mascara brands on the market- still insist upon tesing on animals. Until these Companies “Wake Up”….I wouldn’t spend my money on them if I were you. Today, you have a choice. Luckily, there are more and more options for “evolved” mascaras out there. I am always talking to women about this and so I decided to present some mascaras that come up most frequently in conversations. I believe I have put together a pretty good sampling of some of the best non toxic, cruelty free mascaras that are on the market at every price point. I have pointed out the ones that are Vegan.

Dr Hauschka Volumizing ( Vegan)

Client’s report a notable difference in volume- thickens the lash naturally.

Tarte Lash Hugger Eco-Friendly Mascara

Good stuff, performs well, and the packaging is made of post consumer recycled aluminum.

Logona ( Vegan)

I’ve heard great things about this mascara. I haven’t tried it myself but have heard rave reviews from models I have worked with. One girl called it simply, “lash conditioner”.

Suncoat Natural Sugar Based( Vegan)

Physicians Formula Organic Wear 100% Natural Origin Mascara

Recyclable brush, doesn’t smudge or flake. Good stuff available at the local drugstore.

Beauty products are evolving and you have a lot of choices out there now. These mascaras mentioned above have revolutionized, while at the same time, simplified and purified their ingredients. Become an ingredient label reader. Educate yourself about what’s in the products you put into and onto your body. It takes less effort than you think. As always, reports differ from individual to individual. For some, a mascara may be smudge proof all day, but for those with oilier skin or hooded eyelids…..it might still smudge. Do your own research and find the mascara that best suits your needs.

The Organic Face

The Organic Face

by Chantal Moore, Beauty Editor

When I set out to do makeup professionally, one of the very first books I purchased to educate myself on product ingredients was “Don’t go to the Cosmetics Counter Without Me” by Paula Begoun. This is the bible for cosmetic ingredient research. When I started to educate myself about what exactly was in the products I was putting on not only my client’s faces, but my own- my whole thinking changed about cosmetics. When you are talking about Organic you are talking about a product that has been produced and manufactured by guidelines that strictly enforce an environment free of synthetic ingredients, chemicals and of course-GMO’s. Here are a few chemicals commonly found in cosmetics- DEA, Aluminum, Alcohol, Ammonium Laureth Sulfate and Mercury amongst many others. These chemicals are absorbed through your skin as toxins that store in the tissues of your body. Now, I am a big advocate of arming yourself with the ammunition of knowledge. Do your research.

Making Beauty Cruelty Free:  Awakening to the need for cruelty free cosmetics

As a  Professional Makeup Artist, it is my responsibility to make sure that the products I use are of a quality to withhold the standards set within my industry by the top Makeup Artists in the world.  Whatever we use on our client’s has to perform and we seek out companies that have the best performing products for our client’s needs. As a conscious human being, I also feel a responsibility to not contribute to the suffering of animals for Beauty’s sake. There is just need for it. We as a society should be beyond this. No animal should have to endure the tortures of cosmetic testing. So, I began the process of taking my Makeup Kit (my professional tools and products for my work) to cruelty free a few years ago and I am here to tell you that if a Professional Makeup Artist can do it, you can easily do it, too. It is simple to do and you can do it without spending a lot of money.
